Uglich cheese and dairy plant

Founded in 1935 as an experimental production for mass manufacturing and the creation of new cheese varieties, the dairy factory in the Yaroslavl region's city of Uglich was one of the first significant cheese manufacturers in the USSR.

Progressive masters of the cheese craft developed formulas here that went on to become well-known across the country and abroad.

The AgriVolga agricultural holding purchased the FSUE "Experimental Cheese Plant" properties in 2018 and made an investment of 1 billion 840 million rubles to modernise processes. The enterprise has been known as "Uglich Cheese and Dairy Plant" since 2018. The technological equipment of the cheese-making line was modified from July 2019 to December 2020 in order to produce semi-hard cheeses and deep process whey.

The Uglich Cheese and Dairy Plant (USMZ) now makes premium cheeses under the "Ugleche Pole" brand and dairy and fermented milk products under the "Iz Uglicha" brand using new, modern equipment. It has 13,750 m² of industrial space and processes 200 tonnes of milk each day, with 75 tonnes utilised for dairy products and 125 tonnes for cheese.

The company is rapidly increasing its cheese production in accordance with the renowned "Uglichsky," "Poshekhonsky," "Rossiysky," "Kostromskoy," and "Gollandsky" recipes. All of the cheeses are prepared according to Russian recipes developed at VNIIMS and using traditional Uglich-produced starters. Every year, the plant's products win awards at Russian and worldwide fairs for their superior quality.

In 2024, the plant's grounds became the centre of Russia's first industrial and gastronomic tourism ecosystem.
